CP#8 Race to the Sea

The Race to the Sea was not part of the initial plans. It was conducted from September-November 1914, once German progression towards the capital and the subsequent Allied counterattack had both been brought to a halt. To represent the “plan B” nature of this improvised manoeuvre, it cannot be played on first turn, unless the German war plan has already been cancelled (and needs an alternative).

This event may not be played if "Guns of August" was not the German first turn card. An alternate opening move represents more limited offensive ambitions, focused on the border battles with the French Army. The 11.1.9 restricted spaces will then only be accessible once CP War Status has reached 4, presumably later than historically. See variant 11.1.9 restrictions.
